Indications
It is used for type 2 diabetes in adults, if the disease cannot be adequately controlled with a single oral antidiabetic medicine (metformin or a sulfonylurea) or diet and exercise only.
Linagliptin can be used in combination with other antidiabetic medicines eg. metformin, a sulfonylurea (eg glimepiride or glipizide), empagliflozin or insulin.
How to use
The recommended dose is one 5 mg tablet once a day
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Linagliptin if you: have type 1 diabetes (your body does not make any insulin) or diabetic ketoacidosis (a complication of diabetes with high blood sugar, rapid weight loss, nausea or vomiting).
you are taking an antidiabetic medicine known as a 'sulphonylurea' (eg glimepiride, glipizide),
Your doctor may want you to reduce your dose of a sulfonylurea when you take it together with Linagliptin in order to avoid your blood sugar getting too low.
You have allergic reactions to any other medicines you take to control the amount of sugar in your blood.
