Powdered for inhalation
Indications
It is used to control symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma or ongoing lung disease (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-COPD, which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema)
How to use
Unscrew the cover and lift it up. You may hear a rattling sound.
Hold the inhaler vertically with the red grip on the bottom.
Do not hold the mouthpiece when loading the inhaler. To load the Symbicort Turbuhaler inhaler with a dose, turn the red knob as far as it will go in one direction. Then turn it as far as it will go the other way (it doesn't matter which way you turn it first). You should hear a click. Your inhaler is now loaded and ready to use. Load your inhaler only when you need to use it.
Hold the inhaler away from your mouth. Exhale gently (as far as is comfortable). Do not breathe through your inhaler.
Place the mouthpiece gently between your teeth. Close your lips. Breathe deeply and as much as you can through your mouth. Do not chew or bite the mouthpiece.
Remove the Symbicort Turbuhaler inhaler from your mouth. Then exhale gently. The amount of medicine inhaled is very small. This means that you may not be able to taste it after inhaling. If you followed the directions, you can still be confident that you have inhaled the dose and the medicine is now in your lungs.
If you were to take a second inhalation, repeat the steps
Replace cap tightly after use.
Rinse your mouth with water after your daily morning and/or evening doses
Warnings and precautions
Do not attempt to remove or twist the mouthpiece. It is fixed in your inhaler and must not be removed
Do not use the inhaler if it is damaged or if the mouthpiece has separated from the inhaler
As with all inhalers
Caregivers should ensure that the children they are prescribing use the correct inhalation technique
