Epanutin contains the active ingredient phenytoin sodium, which is one of a group of medicines called anti-epileptic medicines.
Indications
This medication is used to treat epilepsy.
Epanutin is used to control epileptic seizures.
In the treatment of the fifth nerve.
For the prevention and treatment of seizures that occur during or after neurosurgery.
in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, but should only be used as a second-line treatment if carbamazepine is ineffective or patients are intolerant to carbamazepine.
Warnings
Do not use Epanutin in case of hypersensitivity to phenytoin or any of the ingredients.
Phenytoin is not effective for absence seizures (petit mal epilepsy). If tonic-clonic seizures (grandparental epilepsy) and absence seizures are present together, complex drug therapy is required.
Phenytoin may affect glucose metabolism and inhibit insulin secretion.
Phenytoin is not indicated for seizures due to hypoglycemia or other metabolic causes.
Abrupt withdrawal of phenytoin in patients with epilepsy may result in the development of status epilepticus.
Phenytoin may cause absence seizures.
Herbal preparations containing St. John's wort should not be used while taking phenytoin due to the risk of decreased plasma concentrations and reduced effect of phenytoin.
How to use
Epanutin should be used exactly as your doctor has prescribed it to you, and you should stick to the doses specified by your doctor.
Recommended dose: 200 to 500 mg of phenytoin in divided doses throughout the day.
The dose is adjusted based on the patient's response to treatment.
How to store the medicine
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.
Do not use the package after the expiry date which is stated on the carton.
