Empagliflozin is a sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It is used to treat:
Type 2 diabetes mellitus: It helps lower blood sugar levels by causing the kidneys to remove glucose from the body through urine.
Heart failure: In certain adults with heart failure, it helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization for heart failure.
Chronic kidney disease: In certain adults with chronic kidney disease, it reduces the risk of kidney disease progression, cardiovascular death, and hospitalization for heart failure.
