How does paracetamol and pseudoephedrine work?
Paracetamol acts on the hypothalamus in the brain to produce an antipyretic effect, as fever develops when the hypothalamus is set to a temperature higher than normal.
Paracetamol works to block pain; It also inhibits the production of nociceptors in the central nervous system (pain reliever).
Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant used to reduce nasal congestion caused by allergies or the common cold.
Pseudoephedrine causes the blood vessels in the nasal passages to constrict (vasoconstrictor).
Vasoconstriction reduces nasal congestion by blocking fluid in the blood vessels to the nasal passages.
Pseudoephedrine is in a class of medications called nasal decongestants. It works by narrowing the blood vessels in the nasal passages and sinuses.
Stimulation of adrenergic receptors results in vasoconstriction and is therefore used as a decongestant in the nasal passages, ear.
