What is Moduretic?
Amiloride is a potassium-sparing diuretic, which prevents the body from absorbing too much salt, and keeps the potassium level from going too low. Amiloride exerts its potassium-sparing effect by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule and cortical collecting tubule. It is used to treat fluid retention (edema).
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide family diuretic that inhibits the reabsorption of sodium in the inferior segment of the distal tubule of the kidney, thus increasing the body's excretion rate of sodium and water as well as potassium and hydrogen ions. This leads to fluid removal and lower blood pressure.
