Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor blocker. Leukotriene are chemicals released by the body when allergens (such as pollen) enter the respiratory tract.
These chemicals cause allergic reactions in the body and the respiratory system in particular, which can lead to symptoms similar to those of asthma.
What are the uses of Singulair granules for children?
Montelukast is used for:
Preventing asthma attacks in adults and children 12 months and older.
Preventing exercise-induced bronchospasm or asthma in adults and children 6 years of age or older. Symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis year-round in adults and children 6 months of age and older.
Montelukast and Corona
Montelukast has an effect on the angiotensin converting receptors, and has an anti-inflammatory effect. Since the coronavirus enters cells using angiotensin receptors, and thus causes severe inflammatory reactions that may lead to serious complications, it is believed that montelukast may have an anti-inflammatory effect and thus prevent complications.
However, the effect of montelukast for this purpose is limited, and it must be given to the patient in high doses to reduce the risk of developing complications, or to prevent complications from developing in healthy people who are at risk of complications from the Corona virus.
What are the contraindications of Singulair granules for children?
Montelukast should not be used without consulting a specialist in cases of hypersensitivity to the components.
