Carvedilol is used for:
Carvedilol is used to treat:
- High blood pressure (hypertension).
- Chest pain caused by narrowing of the vessels supplying blood to the heart (angina).
- Weakening of the heart muscle (heart failure).
Do not take Carvedilol:
- If you’re allergic to the active substances or any other component of this medicine.
- If you have a history of wheezing due to asthma or other lung diseases.
- If you have very severe heart failure with fluid retention (swelling) treated with injectable medicine.
- If you have liver problems.
- If you have been told that you have a very slow heartbeat.
- If you have very low blood pressure.
- If you Prinzmetal’s angina.
- If you have pheochromocytoma (a tumor of the adrenal gland causing high blood pressure).
- If you a condition called metabolic acidosis.
- If you have very poor blood circulation in the hands and feet resulting in coldness and pain.
- If you have a conduction problems in your heart called an AV block.
- If you are currently being treated with injections of Verapamil or Diltiazem.
Warnings and precautions:
Talk to your doctor about all your medical conditions before taking this medicine including:
- If you have heart problems.
- If have or had any problems with your liver, kidneys or thyroid.
- If you have diabetes.
- If you have a skin condition called psoriasis.
- If you a have poor circulation affecting hands, feet, or Raynaud's phenomenon.
Possible side effects:
- Stop using this product and seek immediate medical help if you develop rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or talking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
- If you experience worsening of your symptoms, call your doctor.
Very common side effects include:
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Tiredness
- Low blood pressure
Other medicines and Carvedilol:
Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking, especially:
- Other medicines for high blood pressure
- Diltiazem
- Verapamil
- Medicines to treat irregular heartbeats
- Digoxin
- Medicines used to treat mental health problems
- Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
- Corticosteroids
- Medicines for migraine
- Medicines for angina
- Nasal decongestants
- Estrogens
- Ciclosporin
How to take Carvedilol :
This medicine is intended for adults.
- Take as indicated by your doctor.
- If Carvedilol is used for heart failure, take it with food.
For high blood pressure:
- The usual starting dose is 12.5 mg once a day for the first two days.
- After this, the dose is increased to 25 mg once a day (maximum: 50 mg per day).
For angina:
- The usual starting dose is 12.5 mg once a day for the first two days.
- After this, the dose is increased to 25 mg once a day (maximum: 100 mg per day).
For heart failure:
- The starting dose is 3.125 mg twice a day for two weeks.
- Your doctor will increase the dose for you if needed.
How to store Carvedilol :
- Store at room temperature below 86°F (30°C).
- Keep this medicine out of reach of children.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the package.
- The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
